So Sad: This Woman Struck With Breast Cancer Currently Needs N6.4m For Treatment (Photo)

A Nigerian woman has been struck really hard with cancer, leaving her in serious need of N6.4 million required for treatment.
Fehintola: Before and after the onset of the cancer.

Barely able to walk without falling, she had to be supported on both sides by her care-giver and family member as she made her way to the plastic chair reserved for her in the small sitting room.

With her cancerous, swollen and painful left breast, which she had to support with her left hand, she was breathing heavily and writhing in pain as she finally settled into the chair.

This has been the daily experience of 52-year-old Mrs. Fehintola Famakinwa, for the past two years when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Since then, her condition has only grown worse and the cancer has spread to other areas of her body.

The 52-year-old German Language graduate of the University of Ibadan said she had sold everything she had left, even as she has a daughter in the higher institution and a son who has just secured admission to take care of.

She has so far been at the mercy of her ‘A’ Levels schoolmates who had contributed about N1m towards her treatment till date, just as she had sold all that was left of her personal belongings.

But all hope is not lost, only if she gets help quickly, the doctors have told her.

The once radiant woman who had a catering business before she sold everything to treat herself is now a shadow of herself, as she looks pale and has lost her hair due to the chemotherapy she had been placed on.

She said, “I know Nigerians are very compassionate, and I thank them in advance. I don’t want to die. I have children to take care of. They should please help me so I could continue to be there for my children since their father left us years ago.

“Doctors said I need to buy a drug that would be injected into the four chemotherapy sessions I have left.

“Each of those sessions cost N150,000, if my blood level remains okay. They said I have to do it in preparation for the removal of the breast (mastectomy), and the operation alone is about N400,000.

“At the moment, I can’t even feed myself, not to talk of raising the money for my treatment or taking care of my children. I don’t want to die. My old classmates taking care of me have also tried their best.”

The ailing woman, who is also diabetic, hypertensive and has been with a caregiver where she spends N10,000 daily, said she’s confident of surviving if only she could raise the amount running to about N6.4m, excluding the cost of radiotherapy (post-operation) and other incidental costs.

Her former classmate, Mrs. Bola Ayanwale, who has been taking her to the hospital and running around to raise money for her, also appealed to Nigerians to come to Famakinwa’s aid, saying they are confident of her recovery if she could get help quickly.

Her account details: UBA Savings Account Name: Fehintola Omotayo Famakinwa; Account number: 2047427116.
