About five suspected cult members have been reportedly killed in a renewed cult clash between Vikings and Skylow members in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Daily Post reports one of the victims gunned down was said to be an aspirant contesting for the position of a Councillor in ward 8 in Calabar South Local Government Area.

The aspirant, whose name was given as Mr. Mesembe and a strong contender was killed in the night of Monday at Eyo Ita Street, close to Edibe Edible, a witness revealed.

“He met his death after he was caught in-between fire exchange by Vikings and Skylow members,” he said.

“Vikings and Skylow had mobilised for a hit and run and when they could not find the person wanted but spotted Mesembe and after a shout from one of them that he was the one, he was shot and cut with machetes several times,” an eyewitness said.

His death came after a fight between the Skylow and Scorpion gangs on Sunday night led to the death of a Scorpion member in Ekpo Abasi. Sources hinted that the Skylow planned a reprisal for the Scorpion gang who had killed about four of their members.

On Sunday night, the gang planned to hit Scorpion members around Mayne Avenue, Ekpo Abasi and Anantigha axis where three teams were waiting and ambushed fleeing Scorpion member. It was gathered that the recent war is connected to the killing of one Ecomoc in June.

He was allegedly killed due to ticketing competition between gang groups when government officials in the state indirectly recruited them through phoney companies serving as revenue collection agencies.

Sadly, other suspected cult members were reportedly killed along Ekpo Abasi and Mbukpa street, all in Calabar South Local Government Area. Residents in the area now close shops as early as 6pm while other members of the public desert the road as early as 7pm.

When Daily Post contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, she confirmed the clash but said only one person was killed and investigations was on going, “I can authoritatively inform you that the clash was between Scorpion and Skylow and only one person was killed,” she stated.
